We hosted a Venue and Ticketing Cyber Security Seminar

21st April 2017

Cyber security is all over the news with two recorded data breaches daily! Yahoo, Asda and DDOS attacks with Twitter, Netflix sites going down, companies are under pressure and their customers feel more exposed.

After a successful cyber security seminar last year we hosted another at Soho Hotel, the perfect venue in the heart of the West End and close to many of our clients. Delegates from theatre, cinema, museums & galleries, venue, stadiums and supporting industry bodies joined in the debate and discussion.

With a change of format, Ben Rapp, founder of Managed Networks was joined on a panel with Sanjiv Gohil, Senior Investigating Officer, Operation Falcon, Metropolitan Police, Philip James, Partner, Technology and Digital Media Groups Sheridans, Helen Molyneux Director, Cambridge Risk Solutions and Neil Sinclair, Partnership Development, London Digital Security Centre. And Terri Paddock, Founder of Stage Faves chaired the debate. The mix of experience and knowledge on the panel raised important cyber issues and gave anecdotal evidence with practical tips for the delegates to take away, as an example 'understand your risk' by doing a supplier audit.

Other key points raised were; security policy, human factor, internal culture, continuity, getting board level agreement. The general feeling was that companies are finding they either do not have processes or policies in place or that their outdated IT systems are lagging behind. This realisation, highlights that planning has to be done, which starts at board level. Prevention better than cure.

A few words from the delegates.

  • "Really interesting, fascinating, generally scary stuff, well worth coming along"
  • "Next steps of planning our IT network and with board approval."
  • "Very good, very useful, proper content, GDPR fascinating, more on stats would be good"
