Liberty Wines

Liberty Wines is one of the UK's most dynamic importers of quality wines importing from over 120 producers worldwide. At the end of 2003 Liberty Wines decided to upgrade their Windows NT 4.0 based network to Windows 2000.

As Managed Networks has supported their network since January 2000, it was only natural that Liberty asked Managed Networks to carry out the migration.

After agreeing a detailed plan with Liberty Wines, two Managed Networks' Engineers carried out the Windows 2000 migration over a weekend, in January 2004, to minimise disruption to the users.

During the planning of the migration a few obstacles were encountered including the vast number of custom recipients that were hosted by the Exchange 5.5 server. Standard migration procedures would not accommodate these numbers of Custom Recipients and so Managed Networks liaised with Microsoft directly in order to establish the most efficient way in which to convert them to Exchange 2000 Contacts.

Over the weekend migration another obstacle was encountered. This was an unexpected increase in the size of the Exchange database. In order to resolve this issue the two Managed Networks' Engineers worked through the night to ensure that Liberty Wines were fully functional and the network was running at optimum performance by Monday morning.

When Liberty Wines returned to work on the Monday morning, most users were unaware that the migration had taken place on the network and they were simply working as usual.
